Diva Cupcake Tower

This was another fun order. A Diva Party for a 6-year-old girl. The little diamond rings in each cupcake will hopefully be fun for the girls to take home with them.

Dinosaur Theme Cupcake Tower

This was my first little boy's party. A young man by the name of Nicholas was turning 3 and of course the party theme was dinosaurs. The party was held at the Natural Science Center here in Greensboro. I had so much fun with this tower. There was chocolate and butter/yellow cupcakes and buttercream icing. The Mom supplied the dinosaurs for the toppers of the cakes. The number 3 was made from fondant I colored as well as the leaves I cut from the fondant. LOTS of FUN!!

So with this one I learned that definitely it is the moisture, NOT heat that had been melting my fondant cutouts. I luckily caught some of them that were starting to melt and took them off the cupcakes and set them on my drying foam to dry up and reharden for the day. Only one did not survive. I hand cut all these fondant graduation hat cutouts. I could not find a cookie cutter locally and there was no time to order off the internet. Plus, it was only for 2 dozen cakes.
I also am still working on mixing my icing colors to achieve the color I envision in my head. I am always afraid of ruining a batch of icing by adding too much color. I really should practice with a batch and make small batches up of different colors, but I hate to waist the icing!

This one was so much fun! I loved the colors. I went with an aqua blue color and a deep yellow color. I think it went well with the decorations and Leann, the Mom of the birthday girl, Kennedy, did a fantastic job with the decorations and the whole theme of this party.

Jonas Brothers Cupcake Tower

So this was a challenging order. I had to remake the cake because the original one was TOO MOIST! Once again, another learning experience. It turned out ok. I wanted a few more shooting stars and I wanted them to be higher, but I did not use a strong enough gauge wire. I will from now on and won't have that problem again. The customer asked for the Jonas Brothers picture to be on top of the cake. I laminated it and attached toothpicks to the back and just stuck it in. The little girl was turning 6 and her name was Kharin.

These turned out very yummy. They were dark chocolate buttercream icing with yellow and chocolate cupcakes. I did learn something with this order. The fondant cutouts WILL melt if you leave them in the sun for less than 5 minutes!! Oh well, you live and you learn. Luckily, it was just my sister's shower. I also did the table centerpieces and thought I'd share a pic of those as well!

This was a small order, only 1 dozen cupcakes with matching cake. This was fun. I did learn, however, that my cakes are too moist. Is that possible you say? Yes, because the small stars on top were supposed to be on wires and shooting out the top. I had five total made to put up there. Because my cake was too moist, it wouldn't hold them in. I had to cut the wire off and just stick them in the cake itself. When I did this with my fondant cake, it was fine because the fondant is more firm and held it in with no problems. It's all a learning process!!
