This was 12 dozen cupcakes. The top cake has edible, gumpaste floral bouquet on top. The cupcake flavors chosen for this tower were dark chocolate cake with fudgy icing, carrot cake with cream cheese icing and Southern red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I had to get on a chair and stand up in order to place the cake on. This was a very tall display, but very impressive.

This was 2 dozen cupcakes....15 cupcakes had edible jungle animals on them: elephant, giraffe, monkey and zebra. The cake is a buttercream cake with fondant accents. The zebra and monkey on top are edible figurines. Currently, they are $20 each.

On another note, if you all haven't checked out the new bounce place in town, Safari Nation, you have to go! It's $10 for each child over 2, parents are free. There's so much to do! The staff is really nice and I like there are staff members at each station and they truly monitor the children and if anyone is upset, crying, etc. they find out what's wrong.

This was a first for me! What fun though! This was requested by one of my most loyal, repeat customers. Thanks Heather! She always pushes me to do new, fun stuff! The "glass" was a new, plastic, fish bowl from a local pet store (washed very well of course). The base of the machine was all cake made from 2-8" and 2-6" cakes in strawberry flavor. It was a scary drive to delivery as I had to hold the cake still while my husband drove 30 minutes away. It made it fine and the client was happy. There were 1 dozen cupcakes also, adorned with a mini white gumball on top. The wrappers were purchased from Etsy.

This is a 6" square cake with 3 layers. I had several different plans for this cake, but this was the final choice. I found this "bling" band by the spool and it's not cheap, but pretty! I made 3 dozen roses, all dusted with petal dusts and steamed. I also made for each rose, 2 leaves that I also airbrushed silver. This turned out to be one of my favorite designs. The bride also surprised the groom with a baseball cake. Nice!

This was a wonderful customer who was so great to work with. There were approximately 85 cupcakes on this tower. I made the cake a little taller in height. I found these cute little tiered wedding cake placecard holders at Hobby Lobby that were perfect for the flavor labels. I did strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing, orange cake with cream cheese icing and lemon cake with buttercream. Very yummy!

Hollywood theme 8-year-old Bday Party

This was a very sweet customer who was throwing an , oh so sweet, 8 year bday party for her son. She went all out with a red carpet entrance, paparazzi, etc. I did a red carpet experience cake design with flashing lights along the back and solid lights on the front as spotlights of the movie reel with pics of Ryaire's life thus far. So fun!

This was for a friend's birthday that helps out my husband. It was a chocolate cake, filled with chocolate ganache, then iced in a thin layer of chocolate buttercream, then covered in chocolate ganache and then wrapped in white chocolate candy, topped with white chocolate-covered strawberries. This wrapping was a new technique I tried for the first time and it was a pain, which is why the air bubbles you see are there! I will try again!

Red/White Polkadot Wedding Cake with Roses

This was for a very whimsical bride. She wanted something a little different and unique. You can't see the bride on the cake topper, but she has black and white polkadot galoshes on. So cute!
There were 6 dozen cupcakes, half of which had edible red roses on the tops. The floral bouquet on top of the cake is also made from gumpaste. The cake was red velvet with cream cheese filling and butercream icing. This was made for my boss's son's wedding.

I got to decide on the flavors and it was so fun doing some unique flavors that many people don't get an opportunity to taste. There were approximately 80 cupcakes. The party was a luau themed party. I chose these flavors:

French toast cupcakes with maple syrup buttercream and a a piece of crisp bacon for that salty taste to balance the sweetness
White cake with strawberry jam filling and cream cheese icing
Old-fashioned butter pecan cupcakes with buttercream and fresh pecans for garnish
Chocolate cupcakes with crunchy peanut butter buttercream and a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup to garnish
Margarita lime cupcakes with a mild lime buttercream

One guess which flavor was gone and eaten first? Yep, the French toast cupcakes!

This was a fun one to do! This cake was being taken to The Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC for a Bday party for a 12-year-old girl. This order included 1 dozen cupcakes that were showcased in these beautiful cupcake wrappers. They really do dress up the cupcakes!
The "R" monogram on top is edible and was made with fondant/tylose and has edible pearls embedded in the letter also.

I just ran across this shop on Etsy and just had to share! I think this is a wonderful idea for a unique, cake topper! The price is really good. I am ordering 2 for my girls for their cakes this year.
They can do any character you'd like and you get to choose from a selection of very neat fonts. Initially I was going to go with a character, but I think my girls would love to see themselves on their cake!

Everything is food safe/edible except the jewelry on the bow. This cake will feed approximately 50 people. I delivered this cake at Macaroni Grill at the Friendly Shopping Center.

This was fun! The table was decorated with real sand, seashells and boogie board...so fun! This was 3 dozen cupcakes with edible surfboards all hand painted differently. The surfer dude represented the groom and the bikini girl the bride of course. They live in CA. I spread buttercream icing on the board and sprinkled crushed graham crackers on there and gold sanding sugar.

My little girls kept coming in to the dining room to check the progress of this cake as I worked. So fun! All the characters are edible images attached to fondant pieces and then secured on to alollipop stick. This cake will feed approximately 45 servings. The rocks/stones in front are chocolate rocks I found at Walmart! I also was able to get a quick pic of the birthday girl eating her slice of cake. I made a smash cake yesterday that her Mom came and picked up and they had professional photos made and let her smash in to the cake. I will hopefully add those pics soon.

Oh what a weekend! Did you know, you can not wipe a fondant-covered cake with a wet brush? I did....but do you think that stopped me from doing so? No! That's what happens when it's 2 am and you are exhausted! I love how the zebra and hot pink cake turned out, until I messed with it.

I supply EVERYTHING....right down to the apron, tablecloths, and yes, my hour of time. That's how long typically it takes to get through the cake decorating part...give or take. My least expensive package is $12 per child with a minimum of 6 children/people. This is for your choice of colors of buttercream icing, a 5"cake for each child/person, with up to 3 different flavors to choose from for the cakes. I supply aprons for the children to wear, although sometimes people purchase their own, personalized aprons for each child to wear for them to also take home. I supply the boxes, which I also personalize (if you provide the names) so the children can take their yummy creations home. I bring different types of sprinkles and will make various colors of icing to match your theme or whatever you prefer. I will help them decorate and give an hour of my time to help you out! My packages go up from here depending on if you would like a larger cake, fondant incorporated with cutters, etc, and also things like molded figures for the guests to make, cupcakes decorated, etc.

I was asked to replicate a favorite toy for a 4-year-old's Birthday Party. A unicorn-in-a-box! This was fun! The unicorn was made from rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. I'm still working on the art of making these figurines made from rice krispy treats. The fondant still looks so lumpy. I even tried to cover the RKT in candy chocolate first and the fondant was still lumpy. Oh well, try and try again. There were 3 dozen cupcakes with glittery, mystical, magical stars on each.

What a fun one! If you have small children, you probably know what Word World is. I was watching this show with my girls and said what fun it would be to do a cake with the Word World theme. Within a few days I got this order! Everything was made from fondant/gumpaste. All hand-made/hand-carved pieces. Lots of intricate work, but fun! Characters shown are: Duck, Dog, Sheep, Pig.

My first attempt at a laptop cake. Here' hoping my next is better!! The monitor part was 2 pieces of cardboard (cake board) glued together, then iced a little with buttercream icing and covered in fondant. I airbrushed it with the pink. Then I took 6 long wooden skewers and drove them up in to the screen and then then simply stuck right in to the cake. This was a dense, dark chocolate chip cake. The image I made in Photoshop. The logo was made by a great friend of mine who is a Photoshop queen. This cake fed well over 30 people!

I was very proud of the way my popcorn cupcakes turned out. The wrappers were a little bigger than I wanted, so I'll tweak those. But I LOVED how the popcorn kernels turned out! I had read everywhere about using mini marshmallows to create the kernels, but felt that was additional cost and time that I, nor the customer wanted to have. Plus, I personally don't think I would want to eat that much marshmallows or pick them off either. So I decided I would just do the best I could with buttercream. I used a really large round tip and piped on the kernels. Then I let them crust, lightly tapped down any pointy peaks. Then I had to take a tool and make the criss cross pattern. This was the most time consuming. I had to wipe off the tool after each kernel, as there was BC on it and then dip it in a cornstarch/powdered sugar mixture. Cause once you push past the crusted outer layer, it of course was soft underneath. There were roughly 30+ kernels on each cupcake times 24 cupcakes! It took about 4 hours total for the cupcakes alone. Then I airbrushed some yellow for the "butter." I will be charging alot more for these if ever asked to make them again!!!

The Strawberry Shortcake doll cake was my first time making a doll cake. My girls went crazy over this one and of course asked for one of their very own. So neat that Strawberry Shortcake is still adored by som many little girls, as she was my favorite when I was a little girl.

The Pokemon cake brought back a lot of memories for me as my now 17-year-old twin brothers LOVED Pokemon when they were young!

This is 6 dozen cupcakes with a 2-tier cake on top. All flowers are made from gumpaste. The butterflies were purchased from the craft store. The flavors of these cupcakes were: cookies and cream filled choc cupcakes, margarita lime, blueberry, peanut butter cup choc, strawberry and choc cherry cola flavors. Yummo!

The flowers at this wedding were gorgeous! The florist supplied me with a few stems of orchids to dress up the tower. I was very pleased with how this turned out.

Hello all! I'm back to school teaching tomorrow. It has been a great, crazy, busy summer! I am still taking orders, although I will not be able to take as many at a time during the semester. Since most of my cakes require planning and drying time for pieces, I have decided to adapt how I take orders a little to work around my new schedule. Below are my current policies for ordering with Tara's Cupcakes. I want to accomodate everyone, but please, if you feel these policies will not work for you, then maybe Tara's Cupcakes is not your ideal bakery home.

* All orders must be placed and a deposit paid for at least 10 days before the due date. I am not taking "last minute" orders until December.

* A 50% deposit is required at the time of ordering and the balance needs to be paid, IN FULL, at least 3 days before delivery unless other arrangements have been made. If the balance is not paid, then there may be a delay with your order.

*If an order is placed exactly 10 days before its due date, the complete order total MUST BE PAID at the time of ordering via Paypal or the monies can be brought to my home. No mailing of checks with such little time remaining.

* I deliver and setup for you, but you are responsible for returning the tower within 48 hours after your delivery date. I reserve the right to obtain a $50 deposit for the tower, which will be refunded when the tower is returned.

This is a buttercream, strawberry yogurt cake with a strawberry filling and buttercream icing. I attempted to make a silver rattle for the top cake, but I wasn't too happy with that design. I will try again! LOL!

3 dozen cupcakes: strawberry cake with fresh strawberries, chocolate fudge with chocolate buttercream and yellow cake. All were garnished with silver dragees and edibles on each.

Sex and the City Cake and Cupcakes

Again, another surprise for a birthday gal. I am loving all these sweet, gestures people are doing for the people they love! This was a request for my previois sex in the city design, with some minor changes. This is 1 dozen with martini glasses, shoes and pearls of course. The cake is the skyline of NY and pearls and a diamond ring on top.

This was for an out-of-town father of a little girl here in Greensboro turning 8. He wanted to get a cake for her, so he called me! Now, he gave me less than 24 hours to have this ready, so I had to work quickly. There was 1 dozen cupcakes that accompanied this as well.

I have added a few flavors to my selection. Orange flavor has been added.

I also have a lower sugar option for maybe those 1st birthday children who haven't had a lot of sugar and are worried about that issue. It is a Strawberry Yogurt White cake and it is very moist and very yummy. The icing is still sweet, but I can make that less sweet as well!

My gourmet flavors are:
French Silk Hazelnut
Strawberry yogurt cake (lower calorie, less sugar)
Pina colada
Peanut butter silk
Mocha mousse
Pink Champagne (pink colored cake)
Chocolate ganache
Cafe’ au Lait (rich coffee flavor)
Cherry chocolate chip cake

There is an additional $15 per $50 order for the gourmet flavors.

Well, I haven't slept but 3 hours total in the last 48 hours! What a weekend....but fun cakes as a result! Special thanks to Cinda at www.cindascreativecakes.com for her very helpful, personal help with the stadium cake. She SAVED me because I had never attempted a large constructed, carved cake like this. This cake feeds 75+. It was a groom's cake and the groom actually drew the design out for me. I had a basketball hoop, but it broke at delivery. Live and you learn!

The Harley cake was for a repeat customer that always has me doing fun things! She placed the bike figurine on top at delivery. Her father plays volleyball and carries this cooler around a lot, hence the little items on top. The cake gave me a little bit of a headache. It is leaning and I'm not sure what went wrong. I used bubble tea straws for the first time as supports. Not sure how I like them. It was probably something I did wrong. Very annoying!

Sesame Street! What fun! For a 1-year-old birthday party. This was 4 dozen cupcakes, a top cake and a small, cupcake carved cake on top to be smashed by the birthday girl. Each cupcake topper was hand cut, molded and painted by me. Cookie Monster was my favorite!

Two VERY fun orders. The baby shower tower has 3 dozen cutely decorated cupcakes with an edible stroller on top.

The poker table is a 8 inch, fondant-covered, hexagon cake and feeds approximately 20 people. The cards and poker chips are all edible. The money sign was made with the help of Photoshop.

These were really fun. I did, however have a not so fun time with a batch of allergen-free cupcakes and cake. I have decided, after many unsuccessful attempts at making a good batch of allergen-free cake and cupcakes, that I will need to go back to the drawing board with a recipe. I will no longer be taking orders for the allergen-free cupcakes until then. The cake turnes out ok, so I can make a cake if you need.

The Toy Story cake was a 1/2 sheet cake cut in half and stacked. I covered it with fondant. I also tried for the first time covering my cake board in fondant to do the hard wood floor effect. I looked nice, but was tricky topick up without damaging the sides. I must be leaving out a step somewhere. My little girls have a Woody doll, so I made a mold of his head and then pressed gumpaste in to it to mold Woody's head. It turned out pretty well. I just hand-molded the rest of his body. I didn't have time to make Buzz, but would like to try him sometime.

The Mickey and Minnie Mouse cake was fun. I had some really pretty cupcakes that went with it, but they were the allergen-friendly cupcakes and during the transport to Winston-Salem, they comepletely fell apart and fell over. They had 6 Mickey heads and 6 Minnie heads with bows on top of them.

The farm animal cake is one of my favorite so far! I am happy with how it turned out. About 7 hours total for decorating it! I had no idea it would take that long!!!

Edible calla lillies. 2 dozen cupcakes with edible pearls.

My first attempt at carving a pillow cake. The tiara is completely edible. It was hand-cut.

My first gumpaste show and shoebox cake. This was a gift for a great little girl, Kennedy who is the daughter of a good friend of mine. Everything is edible except for the popsicle stick in the heal of the shoe.

2 tier all buttercream cake for a wedding.

This was for a baby shower. Great customers of mine! They keep me busy! This is 4 dozen with edible barnyard animals on each cupcake. Everything is edible. The barn is made from rice krispy treats and fondant.
